It’s hard to believe that May is halfway over already! Summertime is just around the corner, and it’s time for me to get myself in check.
As I’ve said in previous posts, I’m taking steps to eat more healthily, while being as cost and time-efficient as possible. And that works … for the most part. I’ve having the hardest time saying no to Skor bars, Nerds-filled gumballs, Sour Patch Kids or any other adjacent. I really thought I’d grow out of my love for sugar after high school. I’m in my early thirties and I still love candy and chocolate the way I did when I was 8 – so sad! The mixture of treats, too much takeout and inconsistent exercising keeping me at a weight I don’t want to be at. It’s not to say that I’m overweight and unattractive, because that ain’t true, but I could stand to drop a few el-bees so I can look more like I did just last year this time. Plus, the tank tops, shorts and summer dresses are just around the corner – I need to shape up, both literally and figuratively.
My cousin, friend and I went out for wine this past weekend and discussed what steps we were going to take this week to help us reach our goals. My goals this week are to reactivate my gym membership (deactivating it was the dumbest thing I’ve done all year), go for one 5K run (easy enough) and I save the most challenging goal for last – this week, I cannot have any candy or chocolate! I knew that was going to be a tough one for me, but as they say, things worth doing are a challenge, or something like that … you know what I mean. Resisting my sweet tooth has been difficult. Luckily I have a few grapefruits at home. It’s amazing how much candy and chocolate are a part of my daily routine. All those empty calories, not to mention the sugar, are not what I need, from both a health and appearance perspective. I have to admit … I semi-cheated. Last night, I had an acute craving for a Vachon Passion Flakie! Talk about an elementary school throwback! And it gets even worse – I was too lazy to walk to the convenience store a block away from me, so I drove to the grocery store and bought it there. And unlike the convenience store that sells them individually, the grocery store has them in boxes of 6. Why, after 24 short hours, was the box completely empty?

You have to put more greens in there to get the health benefits!
You’re totally right! I need to do some serious veggie shopping. All I have are fruits right now. But as soon as I get some fresh kale and other green goodies, I’ll be making some power shakes.
Nice little blender seems like a great tool 🙂
Yeah, I’m really impressed with it so far. I got it from Bed, Bath & Beyond. With my 20% off coupon, I got it for $80. I’m sure it’s even cheaper in the US.
Melanie! Oh my! The flakies got my attention – childhood favourite of mine too. Oh the nefarious sweet tooth – I have one. This post has got me motivated – thank you.
Aren’t flakies the best? LOL. I’m glad you like the post. I was this close to giving in last night and eating some of the Haagen-Dazs chocolate chunk ice cream I have in my freezer, but I held true! This weekend, I’m going to play around with different juicing recipes. I hope to have some good ones to share next week!
